Travel Documents

Passport
A valid passport is required when travelling to Barbados. It is highly recommended that your passport be valid for at least 6 months prior to travel. A separate photo identification card is also recommended for casual use while on island. As long as your passport is within its stated validity you should be able to enter and leave Barbados without a problem.

 

Visas
Visas are not usually required when travelling to Barbados. UK passport holders do not need visas to enter Barbados for visits up to 6 months.  Otherwise under normal conditions a granted stay of 28 days is given on arrival.  If you wish to extend your stay over this period you should seek permission from the authorities, doing so without permission is an offence, as is taking any form of employment without a work permit.  Visa extensions and work permits must be applied for at the Immigration Department, Careenage House, The Wharf, Bridgetown. Entry requirements may change from time to time and should be checked with your nearest Barbados Consulate.

 

Electrical standards

Barbados uses the 100-125 volt system
We use a North American appliance designed electrical outlet to operate in the 100-125 volt range will work in this country without a transformer  or converter.

         Be sure to bring the get the right adaptor or plug. See example below.

 

Finance – credit cards / Currency

Currency

The unit of currency in Barbados is the Barbadian dollar (BBD) and is linked to the US$ (street value is usually US$1.00 = BDS$2.00).  View live currecy rates below:

 

Credit Cards

Most Barbados businesses, hotels & restaurants do encourage and accept major credit cards. Traveler’s cheques in U.S., U.K. and Canadian funds are also cashable at many retail outlets.  Barbados has an abundance of regional and international commercial banks around the island. Banks in Barbados (mostly British and Canadian based) have ATMs/ABMs that will accept major credit cards and dispense local currency based the current exchange rate.

 

NB. International Debit Cards are not accepted. The major credit cards that are accepted are:
